A great up-tempo chart that features trumpet and tenor melody, and lots of interesting writing throughout. Tenor 1 doubles on flute, Tenor 2 on soprano, and the trumpet section doubles on flugelhorns. A part for Fender Rhodes replaces piano on this one.

This is a groovy boogaloo chart that paints a spirited picture of the “May Run”, the celebration that marks the beginning of the short-but-sweet summer season in Northern Ontario. There is solo space for Alto Saxophone (or optionally a rhythm section player), and a written “lead” solo for the 1st Trumpet in the upper register.

This tune that is the third movement of The Northern Ontario Suite has a bit of a “Li’l Darlin'” character to it. A good vehicle to feature a strong soloist, with ensemble parts that are all comfortably playable throughout, this chart would make a lovely addition to any concert programme.
